I’ve been pretty lax about keeping the blog, but I’ll try to make up for some of that. My attention was first distracted by the winter Babar collaboration meeting, a four-day morning-to-night affair that was draining and exhilarating. I got to catch up on a lot of work, and report most of it to the collaboration in several presentations. I’m thinking ahead to summer results, which will be nice. But I also realize that there is a ton of work left to do, and little time to do it.

The same day the meeting ended, my sister arrived for a one-week visit. This was her first trip to see us in California, and her first time in the state. She was super-eager to take a lot of hikes, and of course hit wine country and see San Francisco. We did all of that, and she and Jodi did a lot more. I got tired out pretty hard core by the 10 mile hike in Wunderlich Park, a hike that takes you to the top of the Santa Cruz mountains. She and Jodi then went on a 10 miles hike in Big Basin park, which was even more strenuous than Wunderlich. I didn’t go on that one. I did join them for the walk through San Francisco, starting from the 4th and King CalTrain station and ending at Fisherman’s Wharf. This included a hike up Lombard Street, then down to the marina, and then back to Market St. on a cable car. Our adventures are “photo-documented on my website”:http://steve.cooleysekula.net/photos/Kate2007.

This weekend, I had hoped to sleep in for the first weekend in two weeks, but I founf myself scraped out of bed by the small army of painters here to paint the landlady’s house (which includes our cottage). I hit the coffee, a little s annoyed. But I must say that the house looks very bright and clean, and I will be pleased with the outcome. I topped off my weekend by using the inertia from this past week’s walks and hikes to bike to SLAC. I wanted to find out how much time it would take me, since I want to bike to work one day a week (for starters). I gotta get more exercise, and this is a fine way to do it.

The fun with family, and the exercise, has cleared my head quite a bit. I’m looking forward to getting back to physics this week.

What a couple of weeks.
