<\/p>\nWashington state is getting hammered. This is one of the bigger winter storms in years, and it’s left the good folks to our north in a state of emergency. While we’ve been gray and chilly all day, it’s nothing even approaching bad weather. However, there is this lingering promise of rain, and maybe hail, tonight.<\/p>\n

However, this is also the night that Jodi and I head to the city for our annual visit to the War Memorial Opera House. Each year, the San Francisco Ballet puts on “The Nutcracker”. Jodi and I share a love for Tchaichovsky, and the SF production of this ballet is usually specutacular. They alo pad the experience with chocolates, wine, and performances outside the opera hall. It’s a phenomenal experience, and a great excuse to put on nice clothes and step out of our ragged physicist existence. <\/p>\n
\nWe’ve also been exchanging Christmas presents ahead of our long travels during the holidays. We always alternate Christmas\/New Year with our families. This year, we’re heading to Connecticut for Christmas (yes . . . that’s right: “Christmas in Connecticut”:http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0037595\/). We can’t afford to carry our personal presents all the way across the continent, so when Jodi returned from Minnesota late last night we tore into the presents under our tree. It’s a lot of fun to have some ceremony a little ahead of the actual holiday. <\/p>\n
\nWhat’s more, wer’e both a little tired. This has been a long year – a lot of traveling, a lot of sacrifice, a lot of hard work – and we’re looking forward to this holiday. Batteries need charging!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
