The pastor was prayin\u2019
For sinners unpracticed,
Preparin\u2019 communion
(Except for us Baptists)

And I\u2019m in the second pew ready for healin\u2019
When a voice next to me says \u201cWe should be wheelin\u2019;
The ERs the place that I want to be
On Christmas Eve, o brother, why can\u2019t you see?\u201d

We\u2019ll go to the ER
And wait in a line
The doctor is cranky
But the nurse is just fine!

And I\u2019m in the lobby, a wait neverending
Let\u2019s see what for eatin\u2019 if this machine\u2019s vending
We\u2019ll trade family stories of humor and woe
On Christmas Eve, this is the season, you know?

We\u2019ll go to the ER
And wait in a line
Await diagnosis
And hope we\u2019re all fine.

Another fair Christmas Eve evening is ending
And we are discharged, to our ills we are tending;
And what was the diagnosis the doctor did speak?
He\u2019s not sure what it is; you should come back next week.

We\u2019ve gone to the ER
And now we are leaving
Merry Christmas to all!
