I stood in the back row of the textbook floor in the Yale Co-op. My summer job as a janitor had given me about $2000 to spend for the two semesters, including book expenses. I had all my class books, but that didn’t matter. The dark beauty standing in front of me seemed worth the money, with all its curves. I made a snap decision – spend the money.<\/p>\n

That’s how I came into possession of the simply named, super-daunting book “Gravitation” by Charles Misner, Kip Thorne, and Jon Wheeler. It weighs about 7 pounds and is absolutely impenetrable to a mind like mine. Nevertheless, I’ve promised myself I’ll read through it before I die.<\/p>\n

It is therefore with great sadness that I have heard of the passing of one of the authors, Jon Wheeler [1]. He will be missed, but his many, many, many words and thoughts will live on.<\/p>\n
