Scientists to Pope: Clarify the Church’s Stance on Evolution

As I mentioned in a blog entry a few days ago, a cardinal close to Pope Benedict XVI recently published an essay that dismissed Pope John Paul II’s interpretation of the Theory of Evolution. In this essay, Cardinal Christoph Schönborn suggested that the interpretation of evolution as a natural process occurring without the intervening hand of a creator is inconsistent with Church doctrine.

that several scientists, two of them Catholics, have authored a letter to the Pope asking him to clarify the Church’s stance. Lawrence Krauss is the one scientists if the three authors who is not Catholic.

Galileo is probably groaning in his grave. What’s that saying about history repeating itself?
