CORRECTION: KIMS cannot be compared directly to DAMA

In my read through the KIMS literature, I realized that while it does indeed use a crystal detector (as DAMA, except CsI instead of NaI), thye do not look for an annual modulation. Instead, they look for recoils of the nuclei against the WIMP, and so their result is in the same class of direct detection experiments as CDMS, COUPP, and XENON. Therefore, DAMA/LIBRA’s classic argument that you can’t directly compare them to these other experiments would also hold true for KIMS.

Sigh.

Will nobody do a similar experiment in a different location? I might have to put this on my list of “to-do” items, for when there’s money to spend on new science ideas again…
