Saturday morning is typically when Jodi and I make our weekly pilgrimage to “Stacks”, a local small restaurant chain that specializes in large “American” breakfasts – pancakes, eggs, bacon, etc. We particularly like the one in Menlo Park (corner of El Camino Real and Santa Cruz Ave.), not just because it’s a lot nicer than the Redwood City one but because the people working there are nicer, too. In fact, we’ve become regulars there, in the sense that on Friday morning we decided to go and the gentleman at the front desk said, “You guys skipping work this week?”
Today, we noticed that the waiter delivered the check hand-written on a small piece of notepad paper. We thought this was just charming, until we realized that what had likely happened was their computer system was down. They normally do all their checks and transactions through a central computer, with printouts and other things.
As I went to pay the bill, I asked the gentleman at the front desk (whom we’ve discerned is either a or the owner) what had happened. He looked pretty frazzled, and said that he thought it was the power supply on the computer that went. I mentioned that I had a bunch of old computer power supplies at home and would be happy to give him one as a replacement. I asked him about the computer, and he suggested I come have a look. The computer was a standard PC, with an ATX board, case, and power supply. Sure enough, I had a spare one at home.
Jodi and I went home, grabbed the supply and cleaned it up a little, and drove back to the restaurant. Stacks was **really** busy by the time we returned, so I handed the manager the supply and left my phone number. Stay tuned to find out if our power supply was of any help!
We love that place. Giving them a power supply to make their business run normally is the **least** we can do to show our appreciation for their great food and great personality!
