Mongolia goes “au natural”

After a farily straight-forward upgrade of the operating system on cooleysekula.net yesterday, I caught up on a few bulletins from Fedora Core regarding changes to Core 6 packages. I noticed this little gem in the update notes to the timezone data (tzdata) package:

Mongolia has abolished DST.

Good for Mongolia. No getting up to go running, and deciding it’s too dark to run on mountain roads. No sun still up at 7:30 pm, deceiving you into thinking you still have lots of time left before bed. No lost hour of sleep every year, which somehow isn’t made better by the gained one in the autumn. Hmmm. Sounds like the U.S. needs to get back to nature, too, given the amount of complaining I’ve heard about DST lately…
