Jodi’s ability to connect to the internet from Calcutta has been intermittent, but I’ve managed to get a few things out of her in the last 24 hours. After the initial culture shock (don’t drink the water . . . in fact, don’t even let it touch your teeth), she seems to have settled into WIN07. Her presentation was yesterday, and it was moved up to the morning session to cover another speaker who was sick (probably drank the water). She had a 45 minute review of the state of direct detection of dark matter, which encompassed her own experiment (CDMS) and many others.
Meanwhile, I am trying to settle back into work after the long weekend. It’s been a bit distracting, however, since one of our students is extremely sick and in the hospital. I was stymied in my attempt to see him yesterday – ICU is a bit picky about who visits, and when – but I hear from close friends of his that he is recovering. That makes me feel a little better, but I’ll feel a lot better when I can crack jokes and share a coffee with him again.
