Recruiting scientists to Texas

I enjoyed this quote from Matt Winkler, CEO of Asuragen and chairman of Mirna Therapeutics, regarding the recruitment of leading scientific talent to Texas.

Over the last 20 years I have had the opportunity to recruit a large number of scientists to Texas . . . Not infrequently, I get questions about the quality of science education that their children might get if they accept a job with me and move to Texas. It is hard enough trying to improve cancer treatment and create great companies without having to worry about counteracting negative impressions about our school systems while trying to recruit first-rate employees.

This, of course, was in regards to the overwhelmingly biased religious perspective that has, in recent years, be brought to bear on the definition of science by the Texas State Board of Education.
