Meet the Robots

As part of the changing of our lives, Jodi and I have come to realize that the demands of our work and the demands of our home are becoming incompatible. We simply cannot keep a clean home and get our work done; doing both leads to no leisure time, which only takes a mental toll at the end of the week. So, we invested. We can’t travel this year for the holidays, so we’re saving quite a bit of money. Jodi did a lot of homework, and we debated and came to a decision: we wanted robots to clean our house for us.

Last night, we carried the two robots into the house: Roomba and Scooba. Both made by iRobot and part of a deal from the company, we assembled and charged the robotic floor scrubber (Scooba) and the robotic vaccuum cleaner (Roomba). Tonight, we ran them for the first time. They . . . are . . . fantastic. In less than two hours, Scooba cleaned the kitchen floor to shining and Roomba cleaned the living room, dining area, hall, and bathroom. They make decisions as they encounter walls and stairs, and try to navigate the space in intelligent ways to avoid missing spots.

Hey, do you have ideas for names for these two guys? We need good robot names. If you have suggestions, post them here (and explain them, in case they’re obscure).
